WCTGives "Uniting Communities, Building the Nation" CSR Initiative Revive the "heart" of Kampung Sungai Kembong Hilir, Kajang

A small kampung in Kajang named Kampung Sungai Kembong Hilir lived more than 2,000 residents which their activities are mainly within the kampung itself. The balai raya - which is the heart of the kampung had been closed since 2017 due to ageing structures and roof damage, was recently restored by the Hulu Langat District Office and the local community.

WCT Holdings Berhad (“WCT” or “the Group”), an investment holding company with businesses in engineering and construction, property development, as well as investment in and management of retail malls, hotels, and business aviation, has launched its latest CSR initiative, “Uniting Communities, Building the Nation” (Mengeratkan Komuniti Bersama Membina Negara), at Kampung Sungai Kembong Hilir, Kajang.

Organised under WCTGives and guided by its pillars of #WeCareTogether and #EducationForAll, the initiative aims to revitalise the village’s balai raya and enhance facilities that support learning, social development, and community well-being.

The company came in to build on the efforts of the local authorities and community by contributed funds and volunteer support to refurbish the hall’s adjoining toilet, upgrade the badminton court into a multipurpose space, enhance the kitchen, and provide new tables, chairs, and a reading corner equipped with 300 books for local children. These improvements will enable the balai raya to once again serve as a venue for community meetings, cooking classes, tuition sessions, and recreational activities – fostering learning and connection across generations.

Look at the smiles on the children's face, I believe this corner will benefit them for a lifetime. :)

The multipurpose court refurbish by WCT is now a space for the community for their sports activities.

In addition, WCT extended its support to 100 families from nearby villages – Kampung Sungai Kembong Hilir, Kampung Rinching Hilir, and Kampung Sungai Kembong Hulu by providing Kotak Rezeki packages containing essential groceries worth RM100 each.

Dato’ Lee Tuck Fook, Group Managing Director of WCT, said, “The programme reflects WCT’s continuous commitment to strengthening its role as a responsible and caring development partner of the nation. We believe that meaningful progress begins at the community level — by rebuilding shared spaces, empowering youth through education, and nurturing environments where people can learn, connect, and thrive together.

Through WCTGives, we continue to foster stronger community bonds while cultivating empathy and social responsibility among our employees.”

Meanwhile, Datuk Ab Wahab Bin Khalil, Immediate Past Independent Non-Executive Director of WCT Holdings Berhad and a firm supporter of the Group's CSR efforts, who was present at the event, added, “This initiative reinforces WCT’s commitment to enhancing community development and well-being. With the upgraded community hall, residents now have a safe and conducive space to conduct classes, meetings, and recreational activities that bring people together.”

Echoing the community’s appreciation, Jumat Omar, Village Head of Kampung Sungai Kembong Hilir, said: “The upgraded balai raya is a meaningful contribution to our community. It restores not just a building, but also the sense of unity among residents. We are truly grateful for WCT’s support and efforts in improving the wellbeing of our village.”

The smiles of the community's face showed that what WCT has done has been benefited to them and it will be a long lasting impact to them. May company like WCT lend a helping hands to the community, just like the saying goes: From the community for the community.

Good Job WCT!
